Cows Can Float ?

Frank Fish and various other researchers concluded that mammals could float in the water, and all the mammals that can float can swim as well. You don’t need to teach the calf how to float in the water. The natural tendency to float helps bulls stay above the water surface and survive for some extended time in the water. Bulls have to lift their head high which requires a lot of energy. Their body structure makes it difficult to raise the head for a higher time and stay afloat indefinitely. That’s why you must remain cautious about their stay in the water. Can Bulls Swim?

Bulls are good swimmers, and you don’t have to worry about teaching them how to swim. They can tread any water, shallow or deep, regardless of the depth. There are just three things to worry about when you have a bull swimming in the water. On number one, you have a safe way of entry and exit.

Bulls are Heavy

Bulls are heavy, and they cannot cling onto the ledges or come out of the water from a steep slope. Like a heavy vehicle, you need to provide them a ram-like passage to get out of the water. That’s why man-made ditches and swimming pools are not safe spots for these mammals to swim.

The second thing is the current or flow of the water. A river with gushing water is not safe for them at all. Bulls cannot fight the swift stream and tend to drift away from where they can safely come out. The strong current can even hurl them downward and drown them.

The boulders in the waterway can injure them or make them unconscious, resulting in death. You should always choose the current water area that is slow and adequate for humans to swim to the next brink safely. This way, you protect their life from the dangers of gushing water.

Bulls Cannot Swim Long Distances

The third important thing is the distance they have to swim in the water. Bulls can swim, but they are not meant to swim over a longer distance. Various ranchers make their cattle cross the river or canal to have good fodder to the other side. But that distance is hardly over 100 meters or 330 feet. If you force your cattle to tread longer distances in water, they will lose energy and not lift their head higher than the water. It will result in drowning, and you will have to lose your precious cattle.
